Making the Most of the Winter Sun
A Trip to Paulsbo and Baindrige Island
While most people claim that summer does not arrive in the PNW until June, I personally feel that it is comfortable enough to kick off the year’s camping trips much earlier.
In that spirit, we went backpacking to the Olympics (the Lower Gray Wolf river specifically) in late April to enjoy the relative calm before everyone comes out of their wintertime hibernation out here!
We started from Seattle and took the ferry to Kingston. I’d recommend this over the road route for the views and the chance to walk around the ship and stretch your legs while you are transported across the Puget Sound. The ferry dropped us at Kingston, from where we continued the drive into the Olympics.

After a hike of about 3 miles, we reached the banks of the Gray Wolf River where we set up camp, enjoyed the relative peace and calm, the views as well as the food we had carried with ourselves. Everything considered, it was an amazing trip with some great company, good weather and another set of memories to take back with me.

P.S. We had to personally forage for all that wood you see in the campfire :(
